In Second Life, where the environment appears to be similar to the physical world around us, blue sky with fluffy white clouds, gentle waves on a blue sea, trees, grass and other familiar atmospheric effects, most structures share many visual attributes of the real, physical world. But they don’t have to. In Second Life there is no weight, corrosion, decay or wear and tear. Structures can be placed hundreds of metres in the sky without the need of support and residents can fly or teleport to gain access to them.
Second Life also provides the builder with all the digital tools and materials they need to realise their designs and to do this quickly. In fact the architect operating in the virtual world has the scope to deliver a building project from start to finish.
This unit presents you with a set of circumstances that will allow you to conceive and fully realise a set of design ideas that focus on client need, creativity and innovation while being freed from most of the structural, material and construction constraints of the physical world.
