Books
Film Directing: Shot by Shot- An instant classic since its debut in 1991, Film Directing Shot By Shot and its famous blue cover is one of the most well-known books on directing in the business. This is the book to read to learn the practicalities of directing. Very easy to dip into and learn. Read this if you want to make a film.
Filmmakers
Küba- The latest piece by Turkish artist Kutlug Ataman was installed in a deserted former Royal Mail sorting office just down the road from college in New Oxford Street. For nearly three years Ataman interviewed residents of a shanty town known as “Küba” on the outskirts of Istanbul. The people who live there are all outsiders of one kind or another and the stories they tell are unique. It was in London until May 7th and has now moved on.
David Hayden Schwarz's ReVisit- An eight minute short film that marks an attempt to tell compelling stories in the budding genre of Design Cinema - a hybrid form of moving image that is wedged somewhere between filmmaking and motion graphics.
Lee Ford & Dan Brooks- Commissioned by Channel 4 News, Lee Ford and Dan Brooks, kings of the viral commercial, made spoof election broadcasts for the three main parties. They are perhaps the ads the parties would like to make but can't get away with. “The aim is leave the viewer thinking, 'O my God, did they actually make that?'”
Errol Morris- Documentary filmmaker winner of Oscar™ for "Fog of War". Very particular style based on technique for letting subjects talk in a very revealing manner.
