In September 2010 we published Drawing on Windows. Design Matters: Engaging Young People with
the Built Environment which describes the teaching methods behind Design Matters and
demonstrates the links between the tools we use and professional practice.
Like Design Matters, this publication is intended to provide a format for a range of people to
encounter and learn from each other. It is a record, with some pointers and context, for our
inspiring participants. We hope design educators will be able to use and build on the activities
and exercises. We would like Urban Design professionals to recognise traces of the many
approaches to criticising and making cities - and an affirmation of the creativity and seriousness
of our students.
We were delighted to share the publication and introduce the project to peers and partners at a
working seminar. The event also provided an opportunity for participants to engage with some of
the Design Matters tools. Many thanks to those who attended.
